Arkansas health experts urge caution ahead of tick illness ‘spike’

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas health experts are monitoring a nationwide trend as reports show a possible increase in tick-borne disease and illness.

“Ticks favor the warmth, and they also favor kind of humid climate, so they can dry out in very dry climates, and so that you know it’s perfect, they love brushy, wooded, grassy areas, so pretty much the entire state of Arkansas is a great habitat for ticks,” Dr. Laura Rothfeldt, the state’s Public Health Veterinarian, said.

Rothfeldt said people should be mindful as more and more Arkansans head outside for the summer, partaking in activities such as lawn work and kids playing outside…
