WEATHER BLOG: Buffalo River levels rise with ongoing rain in Northwest Arkansas

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Ongoing floods have occurred across the eastern portions of Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley, impacting roadways and waterways.

The flood concerns prompted flash flood watches for Boone, Newton, and Johnson Counties, and flash flood warnings (now expired) for Boone and Newton.

According to radar, rain accumulation totals reach up to 10.3″ east of Marshall in Searcy County, east of Newton. Higher accumulations between Boone and Newton range from 3-4″ in isolated areas.

The Buffalo National River is also feeling the impacts with sharp rises in water levels. Several gauges along the river were at low levels this morning, but a few notable gauges reached either a high or flood stage by Thursday evening.

The National Park Service offers a dashboard called the Buffalo National River Float Guide that shows river gauges between Boxley and Harriet, Arkansas. It provides information such as discharge, gauge height, and precipitation. Data can also be adjusted for the past 3 days and the past week.
