The latest drought map released Thursday by the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) shows conditions have greatly improved over the last month in Northern Arkansas with Southern Missouri showing no drought at this time.

Notably below average temperatures and a healthy amount of rain have seen North Central Arkansas go from severe drought in mid June to a classification of abnormally dry on Thursday. In that time 8.64 inches have rain have been recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits and the Boot the official reporting station for the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mountain Home. The NDMC reports that this week’s rains lessened or locally eliminated precipitation deficits and led to improvements in soil moisture and streamflow.
