A detachment of Cherokee emigrants reached or remained at a stopping place known as Mrs. Black’s on July 21, 1837. The group was traveling west on the Memphis-to-Little Rock road during the forced removal of southeastern tribes. It continued toward the surviving Brownsville road segment and reached the Arkansas River opposite Little Rock several days later.
