LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – United States Secret Service officials said they partnered with local law enforcement to find illegal skimmers at Arkansas locations during a recent operation.
Officials said the operation took place in the greater Little Rock and northwest Arkansas area. In the July 14 to 16 operation, seven skimming devices were found during inspections of more than 9,000 point-of-sale terminals, gas pumps and ATMs, they said.

Potential loss from the skimmers was estimated to be as much as $7.3 million, according to the Secret Service. Skimmers work by capturing data from payment cards, allowing scammers to transfer the information onto counterfeit magnetic-strip cards for unauthorized use, officials explained.
