SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We have one more heat advisory to get through today before a front rolls through overnight. The front may trigger a few strong storms overnight and will likely wipe out these heat advisories for several days.
Friday: It will be near 80 degrees at sunrise under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. It will remain partly cloudy and very hot with highs pushing 100 degrees, and high humidity driving our heat index to around 108 degrees this afternoon. There will be a very slight chance of a stray shower or storm before sunset.
Friday night: The Storm Prediction Center has most areas north of I-30 from northeast Texas and Oklahoma through Arkansas in the severe weather outlook late this afternoon through tonight. Thunderstorms will be capable of high wind gusts. Large hail and tornadoes are not expected.
Weekend: A few lingering showers may greet early risers on Saturday morning in Texas and Louisiana, but we will be dry for most of the day. A breezy south wind will begin to lower our humidity, but it will remain very warm with highs in the low to mid 90s. Redevelopment of thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon/evening across the Toledo Bend region.
Sunday will be the day we feel the most relief as highs will be in the low 90s with lower humidity. Our heat index will be below 100. A gradual warming trend begins next week, but we may avoid heat advisories on Monday and Tuesday. Our heat index may climb back to the 105-degree mark to trigger heat advisories by the middle of the week.
