SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Good morning, ArkLaTex! A hot and mostly dry weather pattern will carry us through the rest of the week with an occasional rain shower. We now have 4 burn bans in effect, and more are likely as the week goes on.
Temperatures will be in the mid 70s at sunrise under mostly clear skies. After enjoying low humidity for a change on Monday, the muggy conditions will return. Expect highs in the mid 90s and a heat index between 100 and 104 degrees for much of the afternoon. There is no heat advisory today, but use caution if you’re working outside during the hottest hours of the day between noon and 5 p.m.
It will be partly cloudy for much of the afternoon, and the sea breeze should push a few stray rain showers into Louisiana and Texas. These showers may bring a brief downpour to cool things down, but this activity will be very isolated and can’t be counted on for widespread heat relief.
We are only expecting trace amounts to a few hundredths of an inch of rain over the next 7 days, which is allowing flash drought to develop throughout the ArkLaTex. Outdoor burn bans are now in effect for Miller, Lafayette, and Columbia counties in Arkansas, as well as De Soto Parish in Louisiana.
High pressure will remain dominant through next week, resulting in a broken-record weather pattern through the middle of the month. Highs will be in the mid 90s with a heat index near 105 degrees daily through the end of next week.
