Temperatures are heating up, humidity is returning, and so is the risk of wildfire danger.
Arkansas has made a lot of progress in the drought that’s been ongoing since Fall 2025. However, that progress is beginning to stall. This means wildfire danger is increasing, especially in western and southern Arkansas. Moderate wildfire danger has expanded in western and southern Arkansas and is even creeping into central Arkansas, as of Tuesday, August 4, from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture.
July, August, and September are, on average, the driest months of the year in Arkansas. If August and September are, in fact, very dry, the drought will grow again.
Burn bans are in place for a few counties. As of Tuesday, August 4, Logan, Yell, Dallas, Bradley, Miller, Lafayette, and Columbia Counties in Arkansas are under burn bans until further notice. This means any outdoor burning is prohibited.
Some rain chances are in the forecast this week, but they’re tiny. Rainfall totals will be very light overall. Some communities may not even experience rain.
The next best chance of rain is with our next frontal system on Friday, August 7.
The heat and humidity are rising, too. Triple-digit heat index values are expected to stick around Wednesday, August 5, through next week.
