LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With thousands of Arkansas students heading back to school this week, the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office is rolling out its “Extreme Safety” campaign, a weeklong push urging drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to take extra precautions during what officials say is one of the busiest and most dangerous times on the road.
The campaign runs August 10 through 16 and focuses on reducing crashes.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Arkansas recorded 73 pedestrian and pedalcyclist deaths in 2024, along with 178 serious pedestrian injuries and 50 serious pedalcyclist injuries.
