1863 — Marmaduke-Walker duel near Little Rock. Confederate brigadier generals John S. Marmaduke and Lucius M. Walker fought a pistol duel at the Lefevre plantation east of Little Rock during the Union campaign against the capital. Their dispute grew out of accusations concerning Walker’s conduct at Helena and Bayou Meto. Marmaduke shot Walker, who died the following day. Arkansas Heritage calls it one of the Civil War’s most famous duels.
