Lawsuit filed in Arkansas cannabis industry

A new legal dispute tied to Arkansas’ medical cannabis industry is unfolding in Saline County Circuit Court, according to Arkansas Business. Former dispensary owner Josh Landers is suing his previous attorney, Scott Poynter of Little Rock, over nearly $139,000 in disputed legal fees. Landers claims Poynter improperly kept the money from the 2024 sale of a Heber Springs dispensary. Poynter says the funds were part of a contingency fee tied to earlier litigation involving the business. In 2022, Poynter represented the former owners of the Morrilton Enlightened Dispensary in litigation involving ownership. In that Pope County case, Poynter’s clients alleged they were used as “decoy” owners to meet Arkansas residency requirements, while profits were routed through management companies. Some plaintiffs later dropped their claims, and others reached a settlement stating they no longer held the accused parties responsible……
