Committee votes down proposal to end funding for Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ senior advisor and former Corrections Secretary Joe Profiri

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An Arkansas joint legislative committee ended an effort to defund Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ senior advisor and former Corrections Secretary Joe Profiri on Tuesday.

The vote to end the effort took place during the Joint Budget Committee’s Personnel Committee meeting. The committee was the next stop for a Joint Budget Committee proposal made last week that would remove Profiri’s salary from the governor’s budget.

Profiri had been hired by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders as the Corrections Secretary when she took office. He was fired from that position on Jan. 10, 2024, after roughly one year, by the Board of Corrections, following several run-ins with the BOC over communications and mismanagement.
