By Wesley Brown, Arkansas Delta Informer Executive Editor – May 10, 2026 – After years of negative headlines and misperceptions about the region’s near- and long-term fortunes, there is a quiet, rising optimism spreading across the Arkansas Delta.
In recognition of that rising tide, the Walton Family Foundation announced on Tuesday (May 6) plans for its next five-year grantmaking cycle, which will guide the foundation’s framework in Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas-Mississippi Delta. In 2024, the foundation awarded $548.8 million in grants to further its mission through offices in Bentonville, Washington, D.C., Jersey City, N.J, and Denver, Colo.
Robert Burns, director of the foundation’s Home Region Program, told the Arkansas Delta Informer that the new Strategy 2030 builds on the foundation’s mission and earlier work to address complex social and economic challenges through investments in improving community systems, infrastructure and regional collaboration. In the Delta, the foundation is supporting local leaders’ driving changes that ensure all residents can access the resources needed to learn, build assets, and lead their communities.
