25 years later, war in Afghanistan still shapes two Colorado police chiefs

SEVERANCE, Colo. (KDVR) — These days, Ken Chavez watches over the town of Severance from a police cruiser, serving as chief of a growing Northern Colorado community.

But some of the lessons he carries into that role were learned thousands of miles away on the battlefields of Afghanistan.
