Detective Alleges LAPD Coverup of Billionaire’s Daughter’s Death

A Los Angeles police detective is suing the city, alleging his narcotics unit was dismantled and he was transferred to another station in retaliation for wanting to investigate a young woman’s death in Van Nuys as a homicide rather than an overindulgence in drugs.

“The message was clear: pursue this investigation, and we will destroy your career,” Detective Alexander Tan’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges. “We want you to sweep this under the rug and call it an overdose.”

Tan is seeking unspecified damages, saying he has been subjected to a backlash since January 2024. A spokesman for the City Attorney’s Office did not immediately comment on the suit brought July 7…
