Former L.A. traffic officer accused of abusing sick leave to work USPS job

A former Los Angeles traffic officer allegedly collected paid leave from the city dozens of times while working shifts at her second job with the U.S. Postal Service, prompting ethics charges over claims that she abused her government position for personal gain.

Heloise Mitchell, who worked for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation from October 2019 until she was fired in March 2023, is accused of repeatedly using sick leave and other protected time off to cover shifts she missed while working for the federal government, according to the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission.
