Major Southern California-based burger chain franchisee plans store closures

A major Southern California-based fast-food burger franchisee plans to close 10 restaurant locations and sell 49 others after filing for bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

The operator owns 59 Carl’s Jr. locations across California, most of them in Southern California, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times.

The Times reported franchisee Harshad Dharod filed for bankruptcy protection in April and blamed rising labor costs, including California’s $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers, along with what he described as a lack of support and innovation from Carl’s Jr. for the restaurants’ financial struggles…
