Gang members convicted in deadly Los Angeles robberies

LOS ANGELES, California — Five gang members have been convicted for two robberies at Los Angeles lookout points that resulted in three deaths.

A jury found Marco Antonio Hernandez, 19, of Los Angeles, guilty of three counts of first-degree murder, two counts each of second-degree robbery and attempted second-degree robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit a robbery, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Luis Ventura, 24, of Los Angeles, and Abraham Alvarenga Cortez, 21, of Los Angeles, were each found guilty of one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit a robbery. Rossel Jose Hernandez-Ponce, 22, of Los Angeles, and Wendy Sarai Cerritos, 21, of Los Angeles, were convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit a robbery.

Special circumstance allegations were found to be true, with Ventura facing 25 years to life in state prison, while the other four defendants face life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is scheduled for June 18…
