Residents in Wilmington woke up to a startling sight early Sunday morning after a car crashed into a home and came to rest nearly upright on the front porch, creating a scene that stunned neighbors and first responders alike.
The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. along Pacific Coast Highway near Wilmington Boulevard. Authorities said a silver Scion was traveling westbound when it struck a fence before flipping and becoming wedged vertically against the front steps of a residence.
Images and video from the scene showed the heavily damaged vehicle balanced nose-down against the porch, an unusual outcome that quickly attracted attention across Southern California.
Driver Escapes Wreck Without Major Injuries
Despite the violent nature of the crash, the woman behind the wheel was able to climb out of the wreck on her own. Police said she told investigators that she swerved to avoid another vehicle, causing her to lose control.
