Cielito Lindo, the Los Angeles taquito stand, which has served Olvera Street customers for more than 60 years, has reopened after receiving more than $50,000 in donations from community members.
The restaurant closed on a potentially permanent basis in May due to expensive electrical repairs, overdue rent payments, “mounting” late fees owed to the city and “dramatically increased operating costs,” the family, which has owned the business for multiple generations, announced.
The family reached out to customers on social media asking for help to keep the business afloat. The GoFundMe created for the cause received a wave of donations, raising more than $40,000 in five days.
