Over 1,500 L.A. County Households Could Lose Section 8 Aid When Federal Program Ends

More than 1,500 L.A. County households receiving federal rental assistance are at risk of losing that help when Emergency Housing Voucher funding runs out—and a local agency has a plan to prevent mass displacement.

According to a motion filed by Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, HUD announced in 2025 it would end the Emergency Housing Voucher program, which was created under the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act to help people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or fleeing domestic violence.

The Los Angeles County Development Authority originally received 1,964 of those vouchers—and more than 1,500 households in the county are still actively using them.

The L.A. County Development Authority, known as LACDA, plans to move affected households into its regular Housing Choice Voucher program—commonly called Section 8—before federal funding runs out by the end of 2026…
