A major storm is on track to hit in Southern California this weekend, with the heaviest rain expected Sunday night going into Monday morning, bringing up to 6 inches of rain to an already drenched region and posing a high risk for what the National Weather Service is calling “life threatening flooding, damaging winds and heavy mountain snow.”

Flooding and other dangers are expected for across the state. But in a press conference on state preparedness on Saturday, California officials noted that the Southern California coastline, including Los Angeles and San Diego metro areas, would likely see the most severe damage.

“These next storms are going to be impactful and dangerous, and most of the damaging impacts most likely to our coastal and southern regions,” said Nancy Ward, director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. “They’re the most dangerous natural disasters that we have, killing more people from storm damages and flooding than wildfires every year.”
