A Los Angeles County jury found that an LAPD officer was not negligent in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl during a 2021 incident at a North Hollywood department store.
The family of Valentina Orellana-Peralta filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the officer, but State Attorney General Rob Bonta said evidence did not show beyond a reasonable doubt that Jones acted without the intent to defend himself and others.
Orellana-Peralta was killed when a bullet fired by the officer traveled through the wall of a dressing room she was hiding in at a Burlington store on Dec. 23, 2021.
