‘We found parts of him’: Witness recounts deadly fireworks explosion at Los Angeles home

Authorities are still investigating the charred remains of a South Los Angeles residence Saturday after an explosive fire killed a man inside.

The fire started at a garage converted into an accessory-dwelling unit on the 2400 block of 9th Avenue in the Jefferson Park neighborhood at about 5:35 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Video of the blaze shows fireworks shooting into the sky as firefighters attempted to gain control of the fire. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, but multiple boxes of fireworks and other explosives were found inside the burned-out garage.

The woman living next to the unit, Marian Fifi Locke, told KTLA’s Jillian Smukler that she was sleeping when the fire started. Locke said she went outside to find fireworks and flames erupting from the garage and watched the door blow off…
