LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles County officials Friday released a master plan outlining a long-term effort to transform the historic General Hospital campus in Boyle Heights into a mixed-use “Healthy Village” centered on housing, wellness services, economic development and public space.
The plan envisions redeveloping the 30.8-acre campus surrounding the landmark General Hospital building, a 19-story Art Deco structure that opened in 1934 and largely has remained vacant since medical operations moved to the new LA General Medical Center in 2008.
