LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Tens of thousands of people pour into the neighborhoods surrounding Churchill Downs each year for Oaks and Derby. For many families who have lived here for decades, the best seats are not behind the track’s gates.
On the streets surrounding Churchill Downs, the race starts long before the horses do. Yards are so full of cars it’s hard to tell where one stops and the next one starts.
