LUBBOCK, Texas — Michael Vernie Owens, 78, was indicted by a Lubbock Grand Jury on a charge of murder following the fatal shooting of his son in April.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported that Owens shot his son, 37-year-old Michael Joseph Owens, on April 22 after a dispute involving the alleged theft of his Social Security. He reportedly told Lubbock Police Department officers that he “just lost it” in the moments leading up to the fatal shots being fired. Owens was arrested and charged with murder following his confession to police at the scene of the shooting in the 1600 block of 126th Street.
