Electric scooter laws in Lubbock: What you need to know

LUBBOCK, Texas — While electric scooters may be a convenient, quick way to get around the city and Texas Tech’s campus, the Lubbock Police Department wants to remind riders that traffic laws still apply to them.

“Under Texas law, most electric scooters are classified as motor-assisted scooters,” the Lubbock Police Department said in a statement. This means that scooters must obey similar traffic laws to many motor-operated vehicles. “They may generally be operated on streets with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less and may cross higher-speed roadways at intersections.” Electric scooters can also be operated on bicycle paths and sidewalks.
