Isolated Heavy Downpours Thursday and Friday

LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Wednesday night weather update for July 15, 2026.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Low of 64°. Winds: SSE 5-10 MPH.Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with isolated to scattered storms. High of 82°. Winds: SE →SSE 12-18 MPH.

TONIGHT:

Clouds will increase in coverage through the overnight hours as our storm system begins to move in from the south and southeast. Locations across the lower elevations of the Rolling Plains will have the best chance of seeing some isolated shower and thunderstorm activity through the overnight hours. Low temperatures will drop into the upper 50s to mid 60s, with winds out of the south-southeast around 5-10 MPH.

THURSDAY:

Isolated to scattered showers and storms will hang around eastern New Mexico and western Texas on Thursday! Around 30%-40% of the forecast area is expected to see measurable rainfall (≥0.01″ of rainfall accumulation) throughout the day. Some locally heavy downpours could lead to localized flash flooding! The best chance for this will exist over the southeastern quarter of the KLBK forecast area. Winds will be out of the southeast throughout the day, becoming more southerly overnight. Sustained speeds of 12-18 MPH are expected. Isolated showers and storms will linger overnight, with coverage decreasing to only 20%. Lows will fall back into the upper 50s to upper 60s under a mostly cloudy sky.

SHORT-TERM FORECAST:

Localized heavy downpours will continue on Friday, with activity becoming even more isolated on Saturday! Isolated additional rainfall totals as high as 1-3″ will be possible, especially for areas southeast of Lubbock. Highs will peak in the upper 70s to upper 80s on Friday, with more widespread 80s to low 90s expected Saturday afternoon. Morning lows will remain in the upper 50s to upper 60s. Winds will be breezy at times out of the south-southeast, with sustained speeds of 10-20 MPH accompanied by gusts of 25-35 MPH. No severe weather is expected at this time, however some storms could produce 40-60 MPH wind gusts and pea to half inch in diameter hail.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

Drier and warmer conditions will return to the region next week! Highs will begin to climb back into the 90s area-wide, with morning lows returning to the 60s and 70s. A stray shower or storm will be possible each afternoon and evening, however coverage should remain at or below 10% of the KLBK forecast area. A clear to mostly clear sky will also return to the region. Winds will remain out of the south sustained at 10-20 MPH.
