Suspect in Lubbock arson accused of stealing urn, court docs say

LUBBOCK, Texas — Rupert Robins, 41, was arrested on Wednesday on arson and burglary charges after igniting a fire that resulted in over $15,000 in damages.

According to an affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com, Lubbock Fire Rescue responded in the 4000 block of 32nd Street on May 30, 2026, to assist with reports of a fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but it caused over $15,000 in damage. The victim also advised officers that she was missing personal items that included a small urn that contained the ashes of her father.

The victim spoke to officers on scene and believed that the fire was caused by the suspect, later identified as Rupert Robins. She advised officers that they were close, but she began seeing someone, which caused Robins to get upset. Court documents say the victim also advised officers that she had to block Robins’ phone number and social media accounts, and advised that she was in the process of obtaining a Protective Order against Robins.

During an investigation, officers discovered that a truck belonging to Robins was captured on security cameras near the residence both the day and evening before the fire, as well as on the day of the fire. Robins then exited the vehicle and walked towards the camera, cutting the cord. The camera was equipped with a solar-charged battery, enabling it to continue operating and recording video of Robins early in the morning on May 30, 2026, according to court documents…
