LUBBOCK, Texas — A Lubbock man, Johnny Ray Acosta Jr, 26, was federally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.
According to court records obtained by EverythingLubbock.com, on July 15, 2026, the HSI Louisville Parcel Interdiction Unit seized a package that was en route to Lubbock, Texas, from San Diego, California. A drug detection canine alerted to the scent of narcotics inside the package. A state search warrant was executed to search the package.
Agents then discovered 7.2 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine inside the package. A field test returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

The package was addressed to Johnny Rare Acosta at the 6500 Block of Eighth Street, Lubbock, Texas. On July 16, 2026, the court issued a search warrant for Acosta’s residence, where court records stated that he received methamphetamine by mail.
On July 17, 2026, law enforcement conducted a controlled delivery to identify the intended person of the UPS package. Agents replaced the original 7.2 kilograms of methamphetamine with fake narcotics and left 55 grams of methamphetamine in the package.
