TONIGHT:
Mostly clear sky conditions are expected to remain around the region tonight, with winds will shifting from the south-southeast to the southwest by sunrise on Tuesday. Temperatures will remain above average, with lows only dropping into the mid 60s to mid 70s. The warmest temperatures will remain to the east of Lubbock, over the lower elevations of the Rolling Plains.

ACTIVE ALERTS:
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the following counties from 1-8 PM CDT Tuesday, August 18, 2026: Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Motley, Cottle, Dickens, King, Garza and Kent. In these areas, high temperatures are expected to max out around the 105° to 109° range. Be sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks from outdoors activity in the shade or A/C, wear lighter colored clothes to keep your internal body temperatures cooler, and always check your vehicle before you lock your doors to make sure no children or pets have been forgotten inside.
TUESDAY:
Another hot day is in store for eastern New Mexico and western Texas for our Tuesday. High temperatures will range from 96° to 110° during the late afternoon and early evening hours. The coolest temperatures will remain across eastern New Mexico. We will see a mostly clear sky around the forecast area, with winds sustained at 12-18 MPH out of the south-southwest. Wins could gust upwards of 20-30 MPH at times. This, combined with the ongoing drought conditions and above average temperatures, will increase our wildfire potential across the region. Be sure to avoid all outdoor burning, use extra caution with activities that could result in a spark, and call 911 if you see any fire or smoke ASAP! Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will remain warm, as temperature only fall into the upper 60s yo upper 70s around sunrise on Wednesday.

SHORT-TERM FORECAST:
Our relatively stagnant patter will hold strong as we move through the remainder of our short-term forecast period. Highs will continue to reach the upper 90s to low 100s during the peak heating of the afternoon and evening hours. Low temperatures will vary from the upper 60s to low 80s close to sunrise each morning. Winds will remain south-southwesterly with sustained speeds below 20 MPH. Stray showers or storms will be possible over extreme northern and northwestern areas each day. However, coverage will remain below 10% of the 30 County KLBK Forecast Area.
EXTENDED FORECAST:
Aside from a few showers or storms on Friday, we should remain completely dry through the extended forecast period. As we roll into the work week next week, upper level high pressure will re-establish itself overhead. This will increase our high temperatures even further, with potentially the hottest temperatures of the year arriving later next week! Highs will remain in the upper 90s to low 100s, with some areas reaching the 110s! Winds will remain out of the south for the most part, sustained at 10-20 MPH. Morning lows will remain in the upper 60s to low 80s.
