Seminole woman killed, teen taken to Lubbock with serious injuries after crash

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety said a woman was killed and three people were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Gaines County on Wednesday.

DPS said the crash happened at 7:20 p.m. near U.S. 62 and County Road 341.

According to DPS, a Toyota Tacoma and a Chevy Silverado were traveling eastbound on the highway when the Tacoma struck the Chevy from behind. DPS said the crash caused the Silverado to veer off the roadway and roll into a ditch.

DPS said a passenger in the Chevy, Marianieves Leon Vasquez, 45, of Seminole, was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS said the driver, Sergio Villegas, 47, of Seminole, was taken to Covenant Health in Hobbs in stable condition. Another passenger in the Silverado, a 15-year-old boy from Seminole, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.
