Night to Shine Lubbock needs more volunteers for prom event

LUBBOCK, Texas — Night To Shine is set to happen on February 9 at Calvary Baptist Church located at 5301 82nd Street.

Event coordinator, Andy O’Neill, told EverythingLubbock.com she is needing about 120 volunteers to be buddies to the guests attending the prom.

Valentine’s Day events in Lubbock and across the South Plains

“We need about 650 to 700 volunteers to accommodate,” said O’Neill, ” Each guest, when they come, they’re paired with a buddy and that buddy stays with them throughout the evening and helps them through all of the activities. Right now we are about 120 buddies short.”

O’Neill told us 350 guests have already reserved their spot to attend the prom and that beats last year’s total of 300.

O’Neill said it’s rewarding being a buddy to a guest at the prom. O’Neill said, “They just get to come in and help and see the joy on the faces of the guests because it’s an evening of pure joy. And some of the buddies keep in contact with their guests throughout the year and text them on their birthdays to make them feel special.”
