Hocutt: Red Raider athletes have made $14 million in NIL deals since 2021

LUBBOCK, Texas – Below is a transcription of an interview between KLBK’s Matt Stell and Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt.

From an athletic director’s perspective, what does it mean to be in this new world of name, image and likeness? Or how does it feel to be in this world of NIL?

Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech Athletic Director :
College athletics went through decades without a lot of change. And the landscape is changing. That’s a good thing. Things over time change. They evolve and college athletics is no different and it takes an adjustment. We are continuing to go through that adjustment period and we have more questions than we have answers to today about the future. But as it relates to NIL, I think it’s been a positive change. I think it’s allowed us to provide support and opportunities to our student athletes in so many areas that come back to life lessons and how important it is for them to recognize their brand, how to protect their brand, and how to grow their brand. Everything matters.
