Barricaded person in custody following LSO response to Lubbock motel

A man was hospitalized and in custody after he was shot by a sheriff’s department sniper during an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team late Wednesday morning at a south Lubbock motel.

According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, a Texas Anti-Gang unit member located a wanted suspect — 39-year-old Felix Delarosa — around 10 a.m. in the 6000 block of Avenue A.

That is when Delarosa entered his hotel room and locked the door, according to LSO. Deputies tried to make contact with Delarosa; however, he allegedly fired a firearm within his room.

According to LSO, this initiated barricaded subject protocol, which included calling the LSO SWAT team for assistance.

When SWAT and negotiations arrived on the scene and tried to make contact, Delarosa fired his weapon again. Delarosa proceeded to fire his weapon three more times, with one round being directed at law enforcement.

This prompted an LSO sniper to fire one round at Delarosa, which struck him.
