One dead, another in serious condition at Lubbock hospital after Dawson County crash

LUBBOCK, Texas — Matilde Antonio Herrera-Gutierrez, 34, of Midland, died due to his injuries in a Wednesday morning crash at State Highway 137 and FM 828, said the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said 45-year-old Matthew Christy, of Lamesa, was transported to University Medical Center in serious condition.

DPS said preliminary information indicated Christy was traveling southbound on SH 137 while Herrera-Gutierrez was traveling eastbound on FM 828. Herrera-Gutierrez disregarded a stop sign on FM 828 at the intersection of SH 137 and struck Christy, according to DPS.

Herrera-Gutierrez was pronounced dead on the scene.

DPS said it was unknown if the two were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
