Budget committee OKs sale of state building that’s being eyed for Amtrak station

The Legislature’s budget committee agreed to sell a state building to a developer that could turn it into the site of a Madison Amtrak station.

Wisconsin’s Joint Committee on Finance voted Tuesday to sell the former State Human Services Building to Landmark Development Services Company for $10 million. Wisconsin’s Department of Administration now has 90 days to close on that sale.

The former Humans Services building is a 1930s art deco-style structure that’s listed on state and national historical registers. Its proposed sale is part of Gov. Tony Evers’ “Vision 2030” plan, which involves offloading multiple state office buildings because of the rise of remote work among state employees…
