Opinion | Tom Tiffany’s no champion of accountability

Every candidate running for governor of Wisconsin released statements regarding the killing of 38-year-old Madisonian Corey Ruiz, who died Wednesday after an altercation that ended with a Madison officer shooting him multiple times at close range. Videos of the incident went viral, leading to public outcry, demonstrations and investigations.

Among their many messages following the shooting, the Democratic gubernatorial candidates frequently echoed Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’s call for “transparency and accountability in any investigation moving forward.”
