Proposed 190-mile transmission line receives backlash

LA VALLE, Wis. — Over the past two weeks, people across southwestern Wisconsin have been receiving letters informing them their properties are along the route of a proposed 190-mile, 765 kilovolt transmission line.

The letters came from Midcontinent Grid Solutions, LLC. MGS won a bid from Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. to build and maintain the line, called the BECI project.

The project would connect electric facilities in Crawford County with facilities in Walworth County before continuing to the state line…
