Standing at the corner of U.S. 151 and the interstate on the northeast side of Madison, Wisconsin, sits an enclosed mall that opened in 1971 and is still open today.
East Towne Mall opened with Sears, J.C. Penney, H.C. Prange Co., and Gimbel’s. Gimbel’s became Boston Store in 1987. Prange’s became Younkers in 1992, then a second Boston Store in 2003.
The Gimbel’s building came down in 2003. Boston Store closed in August 2018, and Sears closed in September 2020 after nearly 49 years…
