Dane County law enforcement cracking down on red light, stop sign runners

MADISON, Wis. — Dane County law enforcement will ramp up enforcement efforts for drivers who run red lights and stop signs beginning Thursday, the county’s Traffic Safety Commission announced.

Officers across the county will remind drivers to safely stop if a light is yellow when you approach it, look for bicyclists and pedestrians when turning on a red light, and come to a complete stop at stop signs.

“During these two weeks, we will be especially watchful for drivers not following these laws,” Waunakee Police Lt. Matt Plendl, who co-chairs the commission’s law enforcement group, said. “Violators will be given warnings or citations, which can be costly. But most importantly, remember a simple error in judgement can result in a life-changing injury or even a tragic fatality.”…
