BESSEMER, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A man who escaped from the Bessemer City Jail earlier this month was caught in a trash can in Atlanta and arrested last week.

Tyree Chapman, 22, of Detroit, escaped from Bessemer custody on Jan. 12 after being arrested on several misdemeanor charges.

On Jan. 17, officers with the Atlanta Police Department received information that a stolen Infiniti Q50 had been seen near the Boulevard Lotto and Grocery on Boulevard NE. Using a helicopter, police observed the car in the parking lot of a nearby Chevron, with Chapman subsequently getting in the car and leaving.

As police attempted to stop the car, Chapman allegedly fled to a convenience store on Glenn Street SW, where he left the car and fled the scene on foot.
