An Acworth man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a Cobb jury found him guilty of murder this week.
Brian Lee Parker, 35, was found guilty of murdering 27-year-old Zachary Shaw at a home on Emerald Willow Drive in Acworth on Aug. 16, 2020, Cobb District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. announced.
Acworth Police responded in the early morning hours that day to a shooting on the street, and at the scene, they found the Shaw with multiple gunshot wounds and began rendering aid. Shaw was then transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During the course of the investigation, authorities learned that Parker and his wife were at a neighbor’s house on Emerald Willow Drive with friends and acquaintances when Shaw had a verbal altercation with his girlfriend before leaving the neighbor’s house.
The argument escalated through texts and phone calls, with Shaw threatening to harm her and the others at the house, according to Broady.
Instead of notifying police of Shaw’s threats, Parker retrieved an AR-15 from his house and accompanied by a neighbor, confronted Shaw down the street, Broady said.
