MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Groups that advocate for Memphis’ right to reliable public transportation claim that recent service adjustments at Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) are “cuts in disguise.”
“Just because you got a car doesn’t mean transit isn’t for you,” said Sammie Hunter, co-chair of the Memphis Bus Riders Union. “You have that obligation to get on that bus, too, know what I’m saying? You live here in the City of Memphis, you have that right, too. Just because you got a car, you can get on a bus like anybody else.”
MATA’s changes implemented May 17 include adjusted paths and frequencies for four bus routes. Some routes will also have earlier end times, while others will see extended service…
