Nearly half of Memphis’s active short-term rentals are operating without proper registration, and the city has launched formal enforcement to close the gap.
According to the city’s enforcement update, 621 out of 1,260 identified short-term rental addresses citywide have been flagged as non-compliant.
That’s 49% of active listings that haven’t completed registration with the Division of Planning and Development.
Three strikes before a citation
The city is running a three-letter warning sequence before citations kick in. The first letter lays out the ordinance, what owners need to do, and the consequences of ignoring it.
