WREG staff volunteers across Memphis for Nexstar’s ‘Founder’s Day of Caring’

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Employees at WREG spent Friday giving back to the community as part of Nexstar Media Group’s annual Founder’s Day of Caring, a company-wide initiative that encourages employees to volunteer with local nonprofit organizations.

WREG staff members volunteered at several organizations across the Memphis area, lending a hand to causes ranging from animal welfare and food insecurity to workforce development.

Some employees spent the day at Memphis Animal Services cuddling kittens and visiting dogs, Shelby County’s only open-intake animal shelter. The organization cares for thousands of animals each year and relies heavily on volunteers to support programs such as fostering and pet retention.

Another group volunteered with Dress for Success Memphis, a nonprofit that helps women prepare for the workforce by providing professional attire, interview preparation and confidence-building resources. The organization serves women who have experienced challenges such as homelessness, domestic violence and financial hardship.

A team of WREG employees also spent the morning at the Mid-South Food Bank, helping sort donated food items that will be distributed to families across the region. The nonprofit serves 31 counties across Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas and depends on volunteers to meet the growing demand for food assistance.
