MPD chase leads to arrest of attempted robbery suspect

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A North Carolina man accused of attempting to rob a jewelry store in Middle Tennessee was arrested Friday night after allegedly leading Memphis police on a chase through Cordova.

According to an affidavit, Memphis police were alerted to a BOLO issued by the Lebanon Police Department for a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted armed robbery at Winfrey’s Jewelry on West Main Street in Lebanon earlier that day.

Officers were searching for a white Infiniti Q70 that investigators believed was used in the robbery. Police located the vehicle near Germantown Parkway and Chickering Lane and attempted a traffic stop around 7:40 p.m.

Investigators said the driver, later identified as 44-year-old Anthony Tilghman of Charlotte, North Carolina, refused to stop and sped south on Germantown Parkway.

According to police, Tilghman ran red lights at Germantown Parkway and Chickering Lane and at Germantown Parkway and Cordova Road while weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed, nearly striking several vehicles…
