Live Wires Snarl Main Street Just Off Collierville Town Square

Drivers in Collierville were told Thursday night to steer clear of Main Street just south of the Town Square after a utility pole toppled, dropping live power lines across the roadway, cutting off traffic and forcing first responders to lock down the scene. Collierville Fire & Rescue and police converged on the area while utility crews worked to secure the lines and stabilize the pole, and at least one nearby crossing was shut down as a precaution.

The Town of Collierville said on Facebook that Main Street was blocked by the fallen utility pole and that Mt. Pleasant at the railroad tracks would stay closed because power lines were stretched across the roadway. The post noted that MLGW and other service providers were handling repairs and that there was still no estimated time for restoration. Collierville Police urged drivers to use alternate routes and keep away from the area until crews finish securing the roadway.

Closures, Detours And Downtown Slowdowns

The closure is expected to slow traffic around the Town Square through the evening and could put a dent in downtown foot traffic for nearby businesses and events that usually draw visitors. Earlier in the week, Action News 5 reported a downed tree that blocked westbound lanes on Poplar Avenue in Collierville, a reminder that recent storms and mishaps have been stacking up into a run of street blockages around town.
