MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Food prices rose 3% from June 2025 to June 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. On Friday, a local non-profit worked to offset that burden by distributing free boxes of food to families in need.
Feed the Needy held two food giveaways Friday morning in Memphis—one at Middle Baptist Church in Whitehaven and another at the Shelby County Board of Education building. The National Guard was present to help.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office also assisted by delivering boxes to families who could not attend in person.
700 boxes distributed
Organizers began loading boxes at 9 a.m. Their goal was to hand out 700 boxes filled with canned goods, toiletries, snacks and more. Each box is expected to last a family at least five days…
